Tru-Test - Approaches for Visual Project Management

Tru-Test Group is the world leader in livestock production systems, including electric fence technology, milk cooling and storage, animal weighing and milk metering. Tru-Test Group officially began in 1964 with the development and commercialisation of the world’s first proportionate flow Milk Meter, an advance aimed at assisting farmers and herd associations to monitor milking performance. Their core focus remains unchanged – to add value to customers by making available innovative, fit for purpose products and solutions which improve productivity and profitability. Tru-Test Group provide products to customers across 130 countries.
 
Steven Whitaker, Head of Engineering at Tru-Test Group, spoke about their recent development of new project management methods. He discussed the challenges Tru-Test Group faced with managing multi-disciplinary projects and how they have successfully navigated these. As part of this process Tru-Test Group have employed a tool which they have found especially useful and which combines both simple Gantt charts with Kanban boards.
 
Tru-Test Group do most of their manufacturing in New Zealand and have been a New Zealand pioneer in adopting Lean manufacturing philosophies. This event also offered a chance for PDMA attendees to see behind the scenes of Tru-Test's unique manufacturing facility.
